What lives inside you
Is it any wonder that most of the UK’s population remain confused over what’s good for you and why the food we consume today is simply nowhere near as good as it was 40 years ago? Well it’s not just the UK population that are confused so are our friends across the pond in the United States and their statics on the four biggest killers on the planet are horrendous. Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, Obesity and add prescription drugs to that list. This lot kills more people today than ever, some without warning and although survival rates from both Heart Disease and Cancer are much better than they were when I was growing up there are still too many people being struck down by these killer diseases. Confusion also comes from many sources, conflicting opinions, what the papers say, what my doctor says, claims made by companies that sell supplements 90% of whom don’t make them so how can they really know what’s in them. TV and Radio shows add to the confusion.
Last night I was surprised to hear on 100 Years Younger in 21 Days that a whey protein was being used as a meal replacement rather than a pea protein, but I wasn’t surprised to learn that when you smoke a cigarette it robs your skin of oxygen for 90 minutes. That’s the length of a football match without oxygen to the biggest organ in the body. That means that those smoking 10 a day are only getting oxygen to their skin when they sleep. I mentioned in an earlier post that despite all the warnings and the fact that cigarettes are now locked up in smoke prisons in every retailer in the UK, simply still isn’t enough to convince people to quit. Which brings me nicely to the point of these blog posts, giving people a choice and helping them to #Lookharder.

Coming back to your Microbiome. I don’t think anyone who has a television and has seen the anti smoking ads would dispute the havoc that cigarette smoking has on your lungs and arteries? Now we also know that they starve the skin of Oxygen, but I wonder what the impact is on the millions of organisms living inside you?
